On February 2006, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) formalized a collaborative agreement with the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) in order to establish in Puerto Rico the first university based Center for Economic and Financial Education (CEFE) affiliated with the NCEE. The CEEF is conceived as collaboration between the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, and the Chancellor Office.

In our continuous effort to elevate economic, personal finance, and entrepreneurship knowledge in Puerto Rico, the CEFE programs are designed to impact three sector of our society: K-12 students and teachers, UPRM personnel, and the community in general.

The CEEF counts on a library of educative materials developed by the NCEE, in which are didactic resources based on the national standards of economic education and personal finance.

The NCEE ( http://www.ncee.net ) is a nationwide network that leads in promoting economic literacy with students and their teachers. Through their network at national level of 50 state councils and 275 affiliated university based centers, the NCEE programs impact more than 150,000 K-12 teachers and over 15 million students in more than 70,000 schools every year.
