WELCOME

The University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) is a Land, Sea and Space Grant Institution comprising the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration and Engineering. The Economics Department, part of the School of Arts and Sciences, has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research.

We offer a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics as well as service Introductory Micro and Macro Economics courses for students from all academic Programs in our Campus.  We are particularly proud of our undergraduate curriculum which requires Econometrics and a one year Seminar Course, with a thesis requirement, on Applied Economic Research.
 

During the 2006-2007 Academic Year the Economics Department had 131 undergraduates majoring in Economics, and a total enrollment of 2,969 students.  The diverse composition of our courses, and our committed Faculty and Staff, has offered aunique academic environment conducive to the development of the highestquality research, assessment, curriculum development, and technology integration. We also host the first Center for Economic and Financial Education in Puerto Rico affiliated to the National Council on Economic Education, and the research journal Ceteris Paribus.
